A simple TV table with bookshelves

At first I wanted to make a bookshelf with several cells that would be hung on the wall. But after I made the first cell and realized how heavy the books would be, I decided to think about another way to solve the problem. So I came to the idea of creating a table for a TV with bookshelves.

What do you need to make a table

  • 9 mm plywood.
  • 20 mm pine board.
  • Clamps
  • Ruler.
  • Ruler with a right angle.
  • Roulette.
  • Note paper.
  • Pencil and eraser.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Glue on wood.
  • Putty on wood.

  • Corners.
  • Screws.
  • Cordless screwdriver.

Sizing the table and Shelves

Sort your books by height and try to make a stack of them the same height. Determine the approximate shelf sizes that will fit your books. My average pile height was 24 cm. Naturally, books come in different shapes and sizes. Now you need to decide whether the cells are the same size or different, but remember that the body should have the same size.

For a better presentation of the table, make a sketch (three-dimensional). I also found that the most convenient draw panels for which you need to cut a sheet of plywood. Each separately, indicating the size of the sides. In general, you will need 5 panels. rear end.

Sawing plywood

Now that all the sizes have been calculated, we take a 9 mm thick sheet of plywood and draw cutting lines. I found it easier to draw and cut panels one by one than to draw all the lines at once. and only then start cutting. Since the fabric of my jigsaw is about 1 mm thick, and if I don’t make additional gaps between the lines, then about 1 mm will be lost on each section. lines to navigate which side the canvas should go from, and, ultimately, Oke, do not make the panel smaller. And also when assembling it is convenient to make inscriptions with a pencil on the panel indicating the sizeparties. A simple table for a TV with bookshelves

Glue should be enough. Then press the parts together with the help of clamps, make sure that the panels are aligned relative to each other. When drying, the wood glue becomes transparent, but still remove its surplus with a piece of cloth. It only needs to be wetted with water. Wait about 3-4 hours until the glue dries completely.

4 hours later ... Go to the next connection and get ready to wait the next 4 hours. Do this until all the cells are fully assembled. (In order not to be bored, at this time you can watch a movie or do something useful).

Build

After you have done all 4 compartments for books, put them on top of each other accordingly, making sure that the height of the compartments is the same. All four bookshelves should have the same width and depth. Next, apply glue to the respective sides of the compartments on the wood and press them together with clamps.Wait about 3-4 hours to allow the glue to dry.

After that you need to see if there are any voids in the junction, if so, then they need to be filled with putty and leveled with a spatula. Wait about 2 hours for the putty to dry. Next, I cleaned the places where the putty had been applied, manually using emery paper. But you can use the grinding machine to speed up the process.

Making a countertop

I used a 20 mm thick pine board as the table cover. At this stage, you can determine the size of the table top of your table for the TV. For me, the size was 1300 x 300 mm. We draw the lines of the cut and remember that the jigsaw blade must pass from the outside of the line. Now you can proceed to pasting the table top to two tables, and as always, you will have to wait 3-4 hours, while the glue dries.

For more structural strength, I added a shelf in the middle. To do this, you can use both plywood and pine board. I used plywood, gluing it in two layers. So I got a sheet with a thickness of 18 mm. Measuring the distance from one pedestal to another, I cut the shelf. For its mounting, I used the corners and screws. In order to determine at what height it should be located, you need to think about the purposes for which it will serve. In my case, I wanted to place my subwoofer under it.

Varnishing

Next, you can varnish a table, paint, or just leave it as it is. I made a mixture of stain and lacquer so that the table got a shade that I like. Before applying the second coat of lacquer, I waited a day until the first well dried.
