Funny photos: the mermaid parade on the Atlantic coast
Familiar to us according to the legends and fairy tales of mermaids, as well as all kinds of representatives of ocean flora and fauna, Neptune and pirates, dancing and sending greetings to the assembled public, passed a parade on the Coney Island embankment, which is located not far from Brighton Beach in New York. 3,000 spectators and participants gathered at the 36th annual Mermaid Parade, which traditionally opens the beginning of the beach season on the southern coast of Brooklyn, one of the districts of New York.
For the first time the procession of lovers of sea waves and beach recreation was organized in 1983 to celebrate the summer solstice and to note the rich and bizarre heritage of Brooklyn. For many decades, on hot days on Coney Island, residents of a big city, tired by the sun and dullness, rush to experience the ocean breeze, visit the aquarium and a park with many attractions.
Funny photos of the Mermaid Parade participants captured the festival’s colorful and festive atmosphere.
