Katherine Heigl Opens Up About Her First Pregnancy (and Third Child) Being a Total "Surprise"
Katherine Heigl has finally introduced her new son to the world.
People Magazineinterviewed Heigl for this week's cover story, and the actress opened up on the topics of motherhood, pregnancy, and more. The story also featured the very first publicly released photos of adorable baby Joshua Bishop Kelley, Jr., Heigl's first son with her husband Josh Kelley, in a family photo shoot.
Though Heigl is already a mom to two little girls, carrying Joshua Jr. (who arrived on December 20) was the 38-year-old actress' first experience with pregnancy – and she hadn't even planned on going that route. The formerGrey's Anatomyactress, who describes herself as someone who really likes to "think" and "schedule," confessed that the unexpected pregnancy came as a surprise, just as she was filming her new TV series.
"I knew I wanted to expand our family, I knew I wanted to have more children," Heigl toldPeople. "I just didn't know how we were going to go about that." The star of the upcoming CBS legal dramaDoubtwent on to say that she was never really interested in carrying a child herself because she "got really invested in adoption [and] didn't look back or even think about [pregnancy]." Daughters Naleigh, 8, and Adalaide, 4, were both adopted (the former from South Korea in 2009 and the latter from Louisiana in 2012).
Heigl, whose 15-year-old niece Madison also lives with the family on their Utah ranch, anticipated a lot of love being showered on her newest addition. "This little boy is going to have all these girls [her daughters and niece] fawning over him," she said. The actress is also firmly at the totally-in-love stage with her baby son, saying that they're at the point where they're all "really obsessed with him."
But just because she has a full house, that doesn't mean Heigl is ready to call it on expanding her brood. The actress was very much open to the idea of having another child, either via pregnancy, adoption, or fostering.
