The first race of the Tour de France took place in 1903 and unofficially it was called the “Big Loop”, and it seems that it is called that now. The race was established only as an advertising project of the newspaper L’Auto (now L'Équipe), but if you got the idea, there was a journalist named Geo Lefevre. The results of the advertising project were amazing, the number of newspaper subscribers increased from 25 thousand to 65 thousand! Actually this race made the name of the newspaper, already in 1908 there were more than 250 thousand subscribers, and in 1923 - 500 thousand.
